The Texas Winter Trout Stocking Season continues with lots of activity to report, but before we go there the Team would like to wish our Readers a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Last edition we noted trout stockings for the Guadalupe River, the Trinity River, and the Brazos River. Key take-aways this edition are:

- Guadalupe River was stocked weekly in December; there is one stocking on 12/30 that closes out 2016. For 2017, weekly stockings continue in January - specifically, 1/6, 1/13, 1/20, and 1/27. No stockings are noted for February, but do keep a close eye on the stockings by Guadalupe River Trout Unlimited.
- Trinity River was stocked 12/15 by the Tarrant Regional Water District at both Trinity Park and River Park in Fort Worth. Of note, River Park was stocked upriver from the Acme Brick Company. This area is fished more like a lake compared to a river. However, it is anticipated that the trout stocking for TRWD Flyfest will be near the Acme Brick Company; fishermen can plan to wade the river weather permitting.
- Brazos River was stocked 12/6 and 12/20 and is scheduled for a stocking on 12/27. The area stocked is at the Possum Kingdom Dam Tailrace by the HWY 16 Bridge. For 2017, it looks like three stockings are planned for the remainder of the season - two in January and one in February (1/17/2017, 1/31/2017, 2/14/2017).

We also mentioned trout stockings in community lakes and ponds in the DFW Metroplex, Houston, and West Texas in the last edition. Updates this edition for the DFW Metroplex are:

- Bethany Lakes, Allen was stocked 12/15. Bite has been hit or miss for some with trout being taken on Power Bait, Bread, and Super Dupers. Do watch for the evening hatch for emerging "black midges" for those wanting to "catch them on the fly". Also, did sight Cormorant working the trout and feeding on them earlier in the week... not good once they show up after a trout stocking.
- Waterloo, Denison was stocked 12/15. Reports of limits being taken on Power Bait, Corn, and Salmon Eggs. Team was able to fish Waterloo Friday 23 December and limited out using a Gold Super Duper on Ultralight Spinning Gear and a Griffith's Gnat fished wet on Fly Fishing Gear.
- Pottsboro Pond, Pottsboro was stocked 12/14. And, a Trout Derby was held Saturday 17 December. 1,200 trout were stocked in the small pond at James Thompson Park with limits taken by derby goers! Do keep this one in mind if wanting to take the kids fishing for trout!
- Perch Pond (Lake Ray Roberts State Park), Denton was stocked 12/16. No reports received to date.

Also, for reference, below are the upcoming trout stockings planned for 12/27/16 to 01/8/17.

For the latest update on the Texas Winter Trout Stocking Schedule, see the link posted on Texas Parks and Wildlife's website. Also, for easier reference - see link "Modified Schedule", we sorted the schedule posted on 23 November by data and location. Do check it out as well!

Turner Falls Park near Davis, Oklahoma received its trout stocking last week. The Team was able to make the run across the border from North Texas to Oklahoma for a go at the trout. The Team managed to limit out on stocker size Rainbows but did see several Bruisers lurking in the area!  For more info on Turner Falls Park do contact them via email at or phone 580-369-2988.

Waterloo Park Pond in Denision is a small pond that is stocked multiple times during the season. Additionally, several Trout Derbies are held for fishermen of different age groups. Below is a video of the action at Waterloo Friday 23 December where the Team limited out using fly fishing and ultralight spinning gear!

Blue River weekly stockings continue in Oklahoma! Do keep the "Lady Blue" in mind for North Texans planning a trout fishing day trip. Great place with a chance at some nice looking trout! Do check out an excellent video courtesy of the Texas Flycaster!
