CURRENT TRENDS...

The following briefly summarizes current fishing trends in our area:

  • Lake Lavon - White Bass are hot right now with lots of top water action when schools are busting on the surface! Also, the Crappie bite is good - find brush piles, find fish, see if they strike... if they do, keep fishing; if not, move to another brush pile!

  • Blue River (OK) - Reports remain spotty but did see one post on the Catfish Stockings by the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation. Quote: "The water is clear and 82 degrees. Bass fishing is good on soft plastics and small crankbaits around structure. Channel catfish are good on punchbait and chicken livers in deeper pools around current. Sunfish are good on small lures and worms in shallow areas." For the latest info on the Blue River, do give Scotty a ring at Scotty's Blue River One Stop - (580) 371-9288.

  • Possum Kingdom - Looks like activity below the dam in the tailrace has increased but reports have been slow. Do check out the recent video posted by one fisherman in the sidebar. Looks like there are fish to be caught!
  • Denison Dam - Been digging around for reports and updates but so far it has been tough. Do know the main lake - Texoma, has been slow for Striped Bass while the White Bass has been smoking! For the tailrace did find a recent video posted by one fisherman. Looks like a nice Striped Bass on a topwater on the Texas side while the power plant was generating!
  • Community Lakes and Ponds - Catfish, Bluegill, and Bass continue to be caught. Have seen water levels in some ponds starting to drop do to lack of rain. That said, have seen fish chasing bait fish in the shallows in the late evening. Do keep these pockets of water a go when in need of a quick trip to wet a line! Can be surprising what can be caught in community lakes and ponds!
  • New Pedal Powered Kayaks - ICAST 2016 after-action reports shows lots of new gear. Of interest to kayak fishing are new pedal powered kayaks offered by Wildreness, Old Town, and Perception. Also, Hobie is coming out with a reversible Mirage Drive! Do see the video play list below.
