CURRENT TRENDS...

The Winter Trout Stocking Schedule for Texas is posted - see link. Do check it out as the first stocking is just around the corner for those in the Lonestar State! That said, here is the latest on the three Oklahoma rivers - the Blue River, the Lower Illinois River, and the Lower Mountain Fork River, mentioned in our last edition of iFishNews!

The Blue River located near Tishimingo.

  • Weekly stocking of Rainbow Trout is happening!

  • The recent Trout Derby this past Veterans Day Weekend has some Bruiser Trout lurking in the river!

  • See sampling of pictures caught in the picture gallery below!

  • For the latest info on the Blue River, do give Scotty a ring at Scotty's Blue River One Stop - (580) 371-9288.

The Lower Mountain Fork River (LMF) located near Broken Bow and Hochatown.

  • Trout are being caught but it looks like Walleye and Crappie are the species of interest currently.

  • Polarized glasses and sight casting to trout lurking in pools and runs are working for some.

  • Step lightly in areas as the trout may be tending close to where you are standing!

  • For more on the key terms and the latest info, stop by the Beavers Bend Fly Shop and see Coach Eddie Brister - (580) 494-6071.

The Lower Illinois River (LIR) located near Gore and Lake Tenkiller.

  • There are no camping facilities, but there are several RV and camping resorts that cater to fishermen in the area.

  • Water was murky when the Team fished the river making for tough fishing, but in the early evening were able get a few bites.

  • Key was to work runs where the trout were lurking as well as pools and deeper areas near the "rock formations"!

  • The lower portion of the area between the stream gage and the gravel plant is limited to artificial lures and flies with barbless hooks only or with live bait using a 3/0 hook or larger. While there, did see a couple of Bruisers but none were interested in our fishing flies.

  • For the latest info on the Lower Iliinois River, do give the Lower Illinois Fly Fishing Guide a call - (405) 558-1974.

PS: Do check out Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation's (OWDC) Trout Information site for more info on other areas stocked by the ODWC. Also, when harvesting trout, be sure to have a tag attached to your stringer or risk being fined. The tag will have your name and Oklahoma Fishing License Number.

Blue River in Oklahoma Trout Stocking Season has begun. This past weekend a Trout Derby was held with some nice size trout caught! The Team did make it to the Blue River on opening weekend.  Was a tough round but did manage to limit out!

Lower Mountain Fork ... video shows the Team's most recent trip to the river - October 2016. Fished the Red Zone in the morning, and then the Blue Zone in the afternoon. Was able to limit out fishing one pool in the Blue Zone!
